NAPLES, OCTOBER 7, 1943. Before they abandoned the city, the Germans planted a massive time bomb in the basement of the Central Post Office. It went off a week later, killing a hundred people and injuring many more.

NAPLES, OCTOBER 1943. On their retreat northward, the Germans had dynamited the city’s water supply system. Therefore, the citizens had to obtain water from Allied tank trucks.
